Brad Pitt Stops A Kid From Getting Crushed By Fans (Video)

This is kinda nice. Brad Pitt stops a kid from getting crushed by fans in Spain, or to use the lingua franca of the place where it happened, “Brad Pitt rescata a niña en rodaje de Allied”. Allied is the movie Mr. Pitt was filming, and he took a break in order to say hello to a crowd. More specifically, he waved at a rather large group of people who were clearly REALLY stoked to see him.

But perhaps they were a little bit too stoked. According to the story, and the video backs this up, a little girl was being crushed against the fence. Mr. Pitt saw this and had his bodyguards pick her up and pull her out of the crowd, then comforted her until medical staff arrived. Here’s the video.

I think this is an example of how having kids changes a person. Not that I don’t think Mr. Pitt would have done this before becoming a dad. But the behavior, to my eye, looks very parental. There are things that become instinctual after you have children of your own. In this case, that was a good thing.

Cookie Monster Metal (DaddyTube)

For this Cookie Monster Metal video, I’ll let the description speak for itself:

Cookie Monster Metal

C is for Cookie, M is for METAL

A pioneer in early death metal, Cookie Monster brought his pertinent message to hungry youth.

Enjoy.

And then there’s this picture. Enjoy that too.

Bluetooth Pregnancy Test at CES (Why Do We Need This?)

Elle.com reports on a new Bluetooth pregnancy test from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). My question: why do we need this?

(Note: the picture below is just a public domain pic of a not-Bluetoooth pregnancy test from Wikipedia.)

For the record, you have to pee on a stick, but this fancy new stick connects to your iPhone via Bluetooth.

But also! You can watch soothing videos while you wait three minutes for the results. From Elle.com:

The company released its Pregnancy PRO Digital Pregnancy Test at the Consumer Electronics Show this week. The sticks, which look just like your typical pregnancy tests, sync with a smartphone app via Bluetooth. You then urinate on the stick, as you normally would, and the app notifies you once it detects a sample. Then, a countdown clock shows three minutes until the result is ready. While you await the anxiety-ridden three minutes, you can click on “Calm Me,” “Educate Me,” or “Entertain Me” to either learn about fertility or just watch puppy videos to ease your nerves.

Oy vey. Maybe it won’t catch on.

Understanding Snapchat

Do you have trouble understanding Snapchat? Yeah. Us too.

I’m trying to understand Snapchat. All the kids are into it, but it confuses me.

Snapchat singing thing

The latest version of Snapchat allows you to make goofy animations of your face. Here’s a video from Buzzfeed of people using… well, they’re called New Selfie Filters.

The new filters were introduced in September but I didn’t notice because I don’t use Snapchat. Mostly this is because it baffles me. That said, these animations are very easy to use and pretty funny. Think Emojis, but animated, and with your face on them. We’re all doomed, but at least we can make short video clips of ourselves puking up rainbows before the inevitable apocalypse.

Want to puke rainbows or put horns on your head? This is how to use the new Snapchat Selfie Filters.

What We’ve Figured Out So Far

First: get the latest version of the Snapchat app on your mobile device (iOS or Android).

Second: switch the camera to Selfie Mode. Usually this is a little symbol with arrows on it in the upper right corner of the screen.

Third: hold your finger over your face. Not your ACTUAL face. The image of your face on your phone or tablet. When you do this, a bunch of little images should appear at the bottom of your screen. Scroll through them until you find one that you like.

Fourth: hold down the red Record button and make your video.

Fifth: send it to someone.

Having trouble? Leave a comment and we’ll try to help. Don’t be embarrassed; it took us way longer to figure out than it should have. But that’s OK. We’re good enough, we’re smart enough, and doggone it, people like us.

Watch These Creepy New Justice League Cartoons

I’ve said many times that I am a huge fan of the DC Animated Universe (sometimes called the Timm-verse, in honor of Bruce Timm). My personal favorite is Justice League, both regular and Unlimited. (Most people say Batman: The Animated Series is better but they’re wrong.) Now Bruce Timm has returned to his old stomping grounds… sort of. Here’s the scoop:

DaddyTips Featured Video

Justice League: Gods and Monsters is a full-length animated movie that will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD and digital download on July 28. But you don’t have to wait that long to get a taste of what it will be like. There are three shorts, two available now, one more coming on Friday. The title is Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles. Here are the first two episodes, “Twisted” and “Bomb”. Do NOT watch them with your kids. They are creepy. Seriously. I mean it. DaddyTips Comment 12-20-14 (Video)

The third DaddyTips Video commentary has arrived. Today, 12-20-14, I’m talking about NFL football.

DaddyTips Featured Video

Because this video is a little bit longer than usual (it’s about 3 minutes long; the other two have been closer to 2 minutes), and because I wrote it out rather than improvising, I’m going to include the full text here. It’s still faster to watch the video, unless you happen to be a speed reader. But if you don’t watch, you miss out on my stellar wit and brilliant facial expressions.

DaddyTips Video Comment

So here we go. This is fun. If you like the video, please share it with anyone and everyone.

Thanks for reading/watching/sharing, and most of all thanks for just being you. Happy holidays!

(Text of video follows.)

<singing>
The NFL, The NFL
Today I’ll be talking / about football-all-ell
</singing>

Today is Saturday, December 20. There will be 2 football games, billed as a special Saturday edition of Thursday Night Football. Despite the fact that that phrasing is a sign of the apocalypse – kind of like midnight movie premieres that are actually at 7pm – I like football enough that I’m going to watch the games.

Today’s comment is not about one of the Saturday games, it’s about the Bears/Lions game, which is on Sunday.
Apparently the Bears are going to start Jimmy Clausen instead of Jay Cutler. This quote is from an article on Michigan’s MLive.com written by Kyle Meinke, titled “Golden Tate hopes Jimmy Clausen ‘stays safe’ against Detroit Lions defense“.

“He may give us a spark. Who knows? We’re not sure, but I think it was a good time to take a look.”

That’s Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman talking about his decision to start Clausen instead of Cutler.

NFL coaches are an intriguing breed. Generally they live and breathe football. They spend endless hours studying tape, coming up with plays, and thinking of ways to motivate their players.

“He may give us a spark. Who knows?”

Compare this to Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, who, when asked if his team could win the Super Bowl with their backup quarterback, said yes. To be fair, he was ASKED. He didn’t make a proclamation like Rex Ryan, the sometimes crazy coach of the hapless New York Jets.

The Cardinals have suffered a pile of injuries to key players, including starting quarterback Carson Palmer. They are currently 11-3, first place in their division, the NFC West. They are also the ONLY team in the NFC that has clinched a playoff spot.

The Bears are 5-9. That’s LAST place in the NFC North. They haven’t lost their starting quarterback. Until Sunday, when they plan to put in a guy who hasn’t started a game since 2010. Because they’re out of the playoffs.

Maybe coaching does matter.

It was suggested to me by a friend that I end these videos with a Tip, since they are being posted on – wait for it – DaddyTips.com. My tip today is:
Be more like Bruce Arians than Marc Trestman. I don’t follow the Cardinals closely, but from what I’ve heard and read, Arians appears to do everything he can to help his team win, including convincing his players that they CAN win, no matter what. Trestman – you know, the guy who said “Who knows?” when asked if starting Jimmy Clausen would help the Bears beat the Lions, would seem to be cut from different cloth.
My point? Buck the odds. Say “why not me?” instead of “who knows?”

Happy holidays.

(Note: The music used at the end is “I Am A Bear In A Lady’s Boudoir” by Cliff Edwards, recorded circa October 25, 1933. It’s in the Public Domain and available for download at the invaluable Internet Archive.)
